Studying French and Russian Studies at Stetson allowed me gain more than a grasp on those two languages, but insight to the cultures, an appreciation for and ability to interpret literature and poetry, a deeper understanding of history, geography, and politics as well as a desire to share all of this with others.
I believe that children need to find a reason to have a goal of being educated. Coming from a small town and having such a global perspective, I love helping children see their place in this vast world and that they are an important global citizen. I try to show them through energetic discovery, that all this "boring stuff" leads to much more interesting and and fun stuff. I am currently enrolled in an Educator Preparation Institute to obtain my certification to teach. In the meantime, I am employed as a substitute teacher for Pasco County, and I previously volunteered for after school care tutoring programs for children between the ages of 6-18. In my college curriculum and internships, I experienced and observed a great deal about people and various styles of processing information. That is, every person has a rather unique way of learning. I would think the most important point to tap into, when tutoring someone, would be to discover how he/she best learns and on what levels. My strongest subject is English and grammatical skills. I get tremendous fulfillment from watching someone who has been frustrated finally "get it." In addition to teaching music lessons, tutoring all subjects, and homeschooling my own two children, I have worked for the last 17 years with a private school.
