A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a photographer and receptionist for Bell Photography for 8 years now. And during this time spent at schools all along the Wasatch front, I am amazed at how many children have problems when they come to our lines. My formal education is High School. But I have done many other jobs including having our own business for 30 years, and the most important one.... being a Mother for 22 years. I now have my oldest two daughters out of High School and a son to graduate in May.
I know that there are so many children that are just plain scared. A Little Bit About Me...

When it comes to math, there is always more than one way to attack the problem at hand and each method appeals to different students. I usually start off with one and I can quickly tell if another would be more effective for each individual since I've noticed everyone has different styles of learning. I do believe everything mathematical can be taught and learned - there are no lost causes when it comes to math.
I received my BS in Electrical Engineering in December. I was one of two who graduated under the Honor's Program and maintained a 3.72 GPA. I've been tutoring math ever since my second semester in college and even while I was in high school. I've taken Calculus 3, differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics and received an A in each of them. I have a great deal of experience along with a sound background in mathematics.

My experience teaching English has taught me that everyone has the ability to learn. The challenge is to identify the needs and style of the learner and adapt to them. I had students who were mostly visual learners and needed everything written down or printed on handouts; I had students who were mainly auditory learners and needed to have everything said to them, sometimes two or even three times in different ways. A Little Bit About Me...

I have previously been a tutor for private individuals while I was making my way through college, and also as a professional duty while I was employed by the Salt Lake City Public Library, where I worked for six years. I have not been a tutor for a few years, although I currently volunteer with the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake by assisting program workers teach english speaking and reading skills to new refugee immigrant women.
I love teaching, but to students about 12 and older. I am able to relate and connect well with them, and let them learn and take pride in their progress. Especially with younger kids, a high degree of focus on my part can be necessary to keep them on task, but I find that one can be firm with them and not need to be patronizing or forceful.
