A whole new world blossomed for me. Teaching clients to use their computers turned out to be a long term and very rewarding experience. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching secondary and college mathematics courses. I find great satisfaction working with students who are struggling (I have had my own struggles). I am always eager to allow students to learn by discovery. Using real-life examples that relate to things students are interested in is a very effective way of permanently seating concepts in their minds. It also makes math a little more fun and the repetition a little more tolerable.
After receiving an undergraduate degree (physics and math) and a graduate degree (teaching secondary mathematics), I taught secondary math for several years. I then returned to school (PPCC) to study Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). I eventually became the CAD instructor, as well as teaching developmental math, college algebra, and Microsoft Office. I have realized that the best test of whether you understand something is to be able to teach it successfully to another person. Though being prepared is not a direct part of the tutor-student interaction, it is absolutely necessary for the tutor to be prepared far beyond the basic level. My teaching style tends to rely heavily on humor and I really try to build a relationship with students that is fun for both parties. I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer.
