As a Michigan resident, I was unable to find sny substantial work in the fiels of Social Work once I earned my BA degree. So, I worked in 3-4 school districts over a two year period before gaining full time work with the State. Eventually, in 2006 I lost my position with the state and again returned to substitute teaching. I enjoy young poeple and giving them a strong dose of encouragement even in brief one-day encounters. After receiving an undergraduate degree (physics and math) and a graduate degree (teaching secondary mathematics), I taught secondary math for several years. I then returned to school (PPCC) to study Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). I eventually became the CAD instructor, as well as teaching developmental math, college algebra, and Microsoft Office. I have frequently tutored friends or their children with their math studies.
I enjoy teaching secondary and college mathematics courses. I find great satisfaction working with students who are struggling (I have had my own struggles). I am always eager to allow students to learn by discovery. Using real-life examples that relate to things students are interested in is a very effective way of permanently seating concepts in their minds. A Little Bit About Me...

I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.
As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years.
