Mike's Guitar Studio is based on the belief that the students needs are of the utmost importance. The Studio is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. Lessons are catered towards what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. The Lessons should be a fun and positive experience as the student progresses on his or her instrument. The primary instructor/ owner, Mike Benninger, has a B.M. in music performance from Keene State College and a M.M. in music performance from the Yale School of Music. Mike's Guitar Studio is located in New Windsor in Mike's Home Recording/Music studio. Recording can be an added tool for recording lessons, songs, pieces, and ideas.

I prefer to teach towards the student, meaning working not only on the students strengths but also their weakness. By doing so, the student will be able to play at their highest level. Specifically, teaching the guitar is much more abstract than learning Math or English. The guitar takes coordination, hearing, and soul to learn. I plan on teaching every student not to just play songs but how to truly play the guitar. I have now been playing the guitar for roughly eight years. Performing at school concerts to charity events and now playing gigs at local clubs and restaurants, I am venturing off towards the directions of teaching the instruments to willing students. I have been teaching students from the age of 14-17 for the past year as some of them have began their own bands and playing at concerts.

My teaching philosophy revolves around the notion that students need respect, encouragement, and guidance to succeed in all of their academic endeavors. I believe the best way to inspire students is by conveying our own passion for the subject through out attitude of reverence for the written word, our knowledge of literature and writing, and our confidence in our own skills as educators. I believe all students can learn to write well when given a relaxed environment where they can learn to express themselves in their own literary voices. As a college and high school English instructor, I have had the opportunity to teach and tutor students on many different levels. I have worked with those in need of remediation as well as students who are are in honors or advanced placement classes. I have successfully tutored several students who have attended ivy league and top tier schools, incl

I believe it is the responsibility of a teacher is not only to present the material in a clear and organized way but also to show excitement and love for the subject. Enthusiasm is contagious; students will be excited about learning a particular subject if their teacher is eager and excited about teaching it. Part of teaching is to convince the students that the material is not only knowable, but also worth knowing. I believe all students can succeed under the right circumstances. The responsibility of a good educator is to find what motivates his students. No single method of teaching works for every student, so it is very important that the teacher knows each student well and is able to use the approach which works for that student. After graduating with my BS in chemistry, I went into industry and worked as an analytical chemist. After a short time in industry, I returned to sc

Although I have only held my BM in Music Education for a little over a year, I have always sought out opportunities to hone my skills as a teacher. While I was still earning that degree, I was the person many of my peers approached to help them understand music theory when they were stuck. None of them failed their tests after a few extra lessons with me. Since graduating, I have been working at a special education school as a one on one aide, and I am constantly making effort to coax out the musical side of my students, often with positive and exciting results. Tutoring friends and students in voice production, part-writing, music theory, and instrumental music has prepared me to be the best tutor I can be for budding musicians. Teaching, and specifically teaching music, has been my passion for years. While tutoring, I use a wide variety of methods, including metaphors, diagrams- w

Since the age of 13 I have been playing bass. Since 1993 I've been a self employed bassist, audio engineer, producer and programmer. In addition to performing, I have extensive experience with computer audio/music recording and production. In that time, I have toured the world playing in several different musical styles. Most notably, playing with Jose Feliciano's. I've taught many students how to play bass privately and continue to do so today. I've taught at music stores as well as my home and students homes. In 2003, I decided that I wanted to integrate music and the internet, so I earned an Assoc. Degree in Web Development. I really enjoy teaching students how to play the bass. It's a thrill when they have that "Aha" moment and what I'm trying to show them simply clicks. Every student I've ever had has had different reasons for coming to me and therefore I approach each individual di

I would consider my teaching style to be very organic and adaptable. I consider each student individually, and I evaluate what works best for that student in particular. I am trained in various forms of teaching, and I have a complete understanding of the various learning personalities and characteristics of students that I have worked with and will work with in the future. I began mentoring students during my tenure at Regis High School, a private, full-scholarship-only high school in New York City at the age of 17. After attending Villanova University and Fordham University's Graduate School of Business Administration, I began tutoring part-time with Studypoint. I have tutored over 30 different students in nearly all academic areas, including SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT and Academic Programs for grades K-12. I am currently a law student at Pace Law School in White Plains, NY, and I would love

When I started working at Colchester High School in Vermont, I initially identified myself much more with the students than the teachers and staff. Back in high school, I went out of my way to rebel against the school. In Vermont I quickly learned that there is a big difference-- that as an adult now, I am on the "other side," but can use this closeness I feel with the adolescent mindset to help with the learning process for the kids. I believe that every child is capable of learning anything, it is just a matter of sparking the fire and desire to gain knowledge within them. I graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 2001, with a BA in Geography and a minor in History. Since then I have had a very diverse experience, working in Vermont as a teacher's aide as well as in a land trust, and in Montreal managing a nightclub and booking bands and acts from Canada and the US.
