Experience Summary
Although I have only held my BM in Music Education for a little over a year, I have always sought out opportunities to hone my skills as a teacher. While I was still earning that degree, I was the person many of my peers approached to help them understand music theory when they were stuck. None of them failed their tests after a few extra lessons with me. Since graduating, I have been working at a special education school as a one on one aide, and I am constantly making effort to coax out the musical side of my students, often with positive and exciting results. Tutoring friends and students in voice production, part-writing, music theory, and instrumental music has prepared me to be the best tutor I can be for budding musicians.
Teaching Style
Teaching, and specifically teaching music, has been my passion for years. While tutoring, I use a wide variety of methods, including metaphors, diagrams- whatever the student requires to learn the material. I am exceptionally patient with struggling students, because I know that losing patience solves nothing, and given the right materials and knowledge, the student will succeed. I believe very strongly in the potential of people to do exceptionally well, even when they may not realize that they are capable. Students will find me to be friendly, knowledgeable, and when the situation calls for it, very intense in my desire to educate. I wish to help people find their own musical potential.
