A Little Bit About Me...

Mike's Guitar Studio is based on the belief that the students needs are of the utmost importance. The Studio is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. Lessons are catered towards what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. The Lessons should be a fun and positive experience as the student progresses on his or her instrument. The primary instructor/ owner, Mike Benninger, has a B.M. in music performance from Keene State College and a M.M. in music performance from the Yale School of Music. Mike's Guitar Studio is located in New Windsor in Mike's Home Recording/Music studio. Recording can be an added tool for recording lessons, songs, pieces, and ideas.

My teaching philosophy revolves around the notion that students need respect, encouragement, and guidance to succeed in all of their academic endeavors. I believe the best way to inspire students is by conveying our own passion for the subject through out attitude of reverence for the written word, our knowledge of literature and writing, and our confidence in our own skills as educators. I believe it is the responsibility of a teacher is not only to present the material in a clear and organized way but also to show excitement and love for the subject. Enthusiasm is contagious; students will be excited about learning a particular subject if their teacher is eager and excited about teaching it. Part of teaching is to convince the students that the material is not only knowable, but also worth knowing. I believe all students can succeed under the right circumstances. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have only held my BM in Music Education for a little over a year, I have always sought out opportunities to hone my skills as a teacher. While I was still earning that degree, I was the person many of my peers approached to help them understand music theory when they were stuck. None of them failed their tests after a few extra lessons with me. Since graduating, I have been working at a special education school as a one on one aide, and I am constantly making effort to coax out the musical side of my students, often with positive and exciting results. Since the age of 13 I have been playing bass. Since 1993 I've been a self employed bassist, audio engineer, producer and programmer. In addition to performing, I have extensive experience with computer audio/music recording and production. In that time, I have toured the world playing in several different musical styles. Most notably, playing with Jose Feliciano's. I've taught many students how to play bass privately and continue to do so today. I've taught at music stores as well as my home and students homes.
