I have been teaching since I was young. I have tutored students since the age of 14 and I have taught students from ages 3 to 18 years old. I have been teaching in the Texas public school system for the last 4 years and I have loved every minute of it! I have taught all grades from Kindergarten to 5th as a special education inclusion teacher. As an inclusion teachers I have been able to teach grade level content to students who understand it but need for it to be taught in a different way. I am excellent at lesson differentiation and working with individuals who need help the most. As a Special Education teacher at heart, I firmly believe that education needs to be guided by the student. I may have a lesson to teach but I am constantly changing the lesson depending on the individual student. I believe that learning should be a fun experience that is according the the learners pace.

I teach to whole group but my favorite is small group or individualized to assist students needs I have taught for 29 years in the areas of Reading and Language Arts in grades 6th-7th- & 8th from 1985-2015 (currently). I have received much training in areas relating to Reading Approaches, Learning Styles, Vocabulay Strategies and Test Taking Skills. I have worked enormous amount of time during my teaching career as an After-School Tutor. I enjoy seeing students succeed after hard work through intervention tutorials. I believe all students can be successful through hard work and preserverance.

I am a seasoned veteran in Education. I taught for 28 years, and was a school counselor for 7 years. For the past 2 1/2 years I have been a substitute teacher, tutor for 5th graders, and part-time counselor for PreK - 5th grade at different Elementary schools in Corpus Christi, TX. I also taught Study Skills, Test Preparation Skills, and Organizational Skills to my students. I am Special Education Certified, and know how to work with students with different disabilities. This includes ADHD/ADD problems, Dyslexia, Reading comprehension, Autism, and many others. My daughter is Autistic, has a learning disability, and is Bi-Polar, so I have personal experience with people with disabilities. At present I am tutoring a College Student who is Autistic. I have the patience and understanding plus skills to tutor anyone.

I review with you the words we cover in reading. If you do not know the word or its meaning, we discuss it. We come back to reviewing what you did not know to make sure you now know it. I give sample tests to cover what you did not know (the before and the after) to be able to show the desired improvement. I ask you to learn other words that have a similar meaning. Time spent attending conferences and workshops began to help me learn how to help my severely-dyslexic son and grandson. Then I helped apply some of the concepts learned to help several dyslexic families with the problems they had including ADD/ADHA, organizational, spelling, reading, and comprehension issues. I have been volunteering for several years gaining experience along the way.
