For my BA I decided in my Senior Year that I wanted to get a Masters Degree in Education so I switched my major last minute from Elementary Education with Emphasis in sciences and General Education to a understanding of how people learn. I have tutored friends and family in understanding a variety of subjects. Student success is a top priority of my mission and I will be receiving my Masters of Education in May.

Students learn with a variety of learning methods. Some students are more kinetic, while others are more auditory or visual. I think it is important for students to develop self- esteem and see themselves succeeding, and that is what I work on first including staying on task. I have always used Madeline Hunters guidelines for successful lesson plans, which includes using manipulatives to assist students in understanding concepts. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. I am very patient and flexible with students and realize that if they do not understand the material that it is not their fault, but rather I need to try a different approach with them. I am currently certified in the state of Arizona in the following subjects: English, Latin and general sciences. I teach two courses of Latin at Glendale Community College, Glendale, Arizona. One class is in the classroom and the other is on the Internet. I also am a substitute teacher in Peoria, Arizona.
My teaching style is quite organized, but also empathetic. I allow for students to use their various aptitudes and abilities to learn. For example, when a student normally presents a report to the class, that student reads from his notes. I had one student who was musically inclined and played her guitar to make her presentation. She used her musical skills quite effectively.
