A Little Bit About Me...

I have not taught professionally, but I do have to help roommates and classmates with their work on a regular basis. I like to give them little tricks and tips for figuring out different kinds of problems. I don't like to just tell them how to do the problem. Instead I want them to figure it out on their own with my guidance and advice. I am patient but I also want the people I help to succeed.

I have had opportunities to teach in many different settings -ranging from college labs and middle school classrooms to special education and health care settings. Through these experiences it became clear to me that not all people learn in the same way. This said, I believe that there are some general approaches to which all respond well. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is relaxed and friendly. If the student doesn't like working with me, then the effort is for naught. Once I build a rapport with the student, I try to impress on them the crucial nature of the subject, without being overbearing. Finally, we delve into the material, celebrating success and ferreting out the problems that may confound us.
After completing my MS in geophysics I went to work in the oil business. I found this to be morally troubling and turned to teaching as a way to give back to the community.
