My understanding of science has been strengthened by completing 30 graduate credits in biology related fields and 23 graduate credits in chemistry. I base my teaching on the pholosophy of Eli Siegal: "Aesthetic Realism". It states that "All beauty is a making one of opposites, and a making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves" Thus, I relate the subject matter in hand to students' personal lives. For example, if we are learning Le Chartelier's Princlple, which concerns the response of a chemical reaction to stress, I have my students discuss the types of stress they experience, and their responses. We compare this to the beautifully precise and appropriate reaction in Chemistry, where the response is never inapproriate, insufficent or in excess. This method has also taught me that I have much to learn from my students and their life experiences. . I know that every student learns differently; so as a teacher, I must find the best way to teach each student and transfer that into my lessons, so that all the students get involved. I also believe in more hands-on and relating information to modern day things that the students can relate to, which will allow them to re-call the information better. I have always been driven by helping others. I graduated college and got into the environmental testing field as a chemist. I have been doing this for 6 years. I am currently working towards my certification to becoming a chemistry, physics and math teacher.
