We learn from our own mistakes.

I encourage my students to be the core of teaching by stimulating them to engage in discussions about certain topics of their liking. Also, I encourage them express themselves even though they might make mistakes. I help them find why is it a mistake and how to correct them.
I taught Arabic as a second language in Plainfield Indiana to students of different ages and of both sexes. I taught all language skills with some concentration on reading skills and conversation. The size of the class was relatively big as I had about 40 students. I encouraged students to express their ideas in the form of written sentences and the I would go over what they wrote in order to correct their sentences by showing the how to construct a sound Arabic sentences.

Literature is one of my top subjects! Understands scope of themes, plot, structure, and styles featured by a wide variety of literature, from Chaucer to Stephen King.

As a student, I earned a 3.87 in my major of English Arts, while both working as an employee for the school writing center and as a contributor for the school newspaper. I also did a lot of moonlighting outside of the writing center as a personal tutor for undergrads, high school, and elementary students, all with various experience in English as a language. I have produced over a thousand pages of academic writing during my time at school concerning a wide variety of subjects, which is a reflection of the broad English curriculum for the University at Albany and my minor of sociology. As an employee for the writing center I worked with students in such areas as the pre-writing stage, study habits, reading comprehension, properly citing work, grammar, letters of intent, creative writing, theses, and general academic writing. A good percentage of students I worked with who were serious ab ... read more

A compassionate person interested in students' success!

I prefer student-centered teaching that encourages learning by both students and teacher. I am an advocate of acknowledging that the students’ varied viewpoints and different ways of solving problems are acceptable. I also favor classroom dynamics even in an environment that permit positive dialogue to optimize success. In addition, I bring an attention to students that extends beyond the classroom as I have great communication skills and can help to advise or clarify issues for those students who need some extra instruction.

More About This Tutor...

I began tutoring people when I was in the eigth grade. I decided I wanted to help out at the school across the street from my middle school in Colorado. I enrolled in a class that allowed us to go and assist the teachers and help the students. I fell in love with kids then for sure. I already knew I liked them because I started babysitting when I was 11 and couldn't stop! Then in ninth grade, a neighbor failed kindergarten and asked if I would starting coming over several days a week to help him understand what was being taught. Needless to say, he made it to the first grade! I now have a 17 year old sister who is constantly asking for my assistance in her homework and it is with great pleasure that I assist her.
I have a background in Psychology, so I am extremely intuitive with what a person needs regarding their learning style. I am able to adapt my teaching style to their needs ... read more

More About This Tutor...

The majority of my teaching and tutoring experience comes from instructing college freshmen in how to write intelligent, thesis-driven essays. I hold a BA and MA in English and have taught writing courses at the University level as well as tutored remedial students. I am well-trained in helping students to become careful, critical readers, as well as develop original and convincing arguments through the careful crafting of strong thesis statements and supporting ideas.
My teaching philosophy is to set high standards and to work diligently with students to achieve them. One's ability to communicate ideas clearly is the cornerstone of both academic and corporate success. The way to achieve this is to first become a critical reader. A student must understand the pattern of a well-formed essay before writing one of his or her own. Once a student has grasped the above, we develop origin ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching has been a passion for me for a long time. I believe that if one is to effectively learn a language, one needs to get a close to immersion as is possible. Therefore, reading outloud, pronunciation, listening, and speaking are focused on. Although grammar and spelling are important, so is comprehension. Through visualising a sentence instead of just a word, one has a better chance at understanding, and will learn vocabulary more quickly. Students of all ages will benefit from my method.
As is evidenced by my background, I hold education as one of the most valuable of commodities. Throughout life, an education is something that can never be taken away. It is a form of wealth that stays with you. I have two Master's degrees. One in Accountancy and one in Business Administration. My undergraduate education focused on International Studies and French. As an undergraduate ... read more

I have always valued a good education so I earned dual bachelor degrees in English and Psychology from H.B.U. while working and raising two girls. After graduation I worked in college admissions for several years before deciding that I wanted to educate students instead of recruiting them. During the last year, I worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in the areas of tutoring and substitute teaching, which helped me gain a deeper understanding of what motivates students to learn. I have experience teaching and tutoring English, Reading, Mathematics, Psychology, and Science.
I love working with and teaching children of all ages. I am an active educator engaged in tapping into a student's unique learning style so I can provide the best education possible. I have two degrees from college: A Master's Degree in Communications and a BA in Journalism. I have been teaching now for about eight years (all levels). I love working with children and adults alike. Teaching college was very rewarding. However, for the past four years I have been a long-term substitute working a variety of subjects. It has been immensely rewarding to work with kids. I have mainly worked at elementary schools. Yet, I have a lot of exposure in working with students at the secondary level as well. I have extensive reading, writing, and grammatical skills through my degrees. In addition, I am a superb communicator both verbal and written due to, in great part, my vast association working with all ages and learning types. While I have tutored children in all areas, I prefer English, reading and writing -- as those are my main fortes.
As briefly stated above, I love teac ... read more

Since I have been around all different types of children, of all ages, I've learned each child learns differently. I will take an approach to different styles of learning to see which way your child learns best. If each child is given the opportunity to learn the best way they can, and not the best way I think they can, then each child will always be successful. As a teacher, I am very patient and considerate and hold no judgment on any child. I want each child I teach to succeed in life, and I'm there to help them.
