A Little Bit About Me...

My style is nurturing and thorough, patiently reviewing concepts before continuing on. I use the popular, modern Alfred Method...these books have colorful,delightful illustrations. This includes "Music for Little Mozarts." The upper levels offer lesson, recital, technique, theory and composition books as well as specialty titles (Christmas, etc). I specialize in homeschoolers. To make sure they don't miss the experience of a school program, our recitals may offer singing, dance, costume/drama, recitation, student compositions, etc. in addtion to piano pieces. I have orchestrated countywide interdenominational events so I enjoy doing this on a smaller scale with children. And they love it as do their parents.

Coming from a family of teachers, the importance of education has always been stressed to me. The emphasis was placed not only on succeeding academically, but also to gain a true understanding of the subject matter. I hold an Associates of Applied Science in Community Service and Leadership and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I also hold a Bachelors of Science in Family Studies with a concentration on early childhood education and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I have an extensive knowledge of reading, writing and grammar and have always scored well into the 90th percentiles on standardized tests in these areas. I completed studies in French I, Spanish II, Modern Greek, and am fluent in American Sign Language.

I have worked hard over many years to asses the needs of individual students. Firstly, I assess the learning level and learning style of the student over the first week or two. Secondly, I approach the teaching style according to those findings. Thirdly, I assess the progress of the student in relation to the teaching style and make any necessary changes in approach. I have been teaching children of all ages for over 25 years. My primary expertise has been in music education.
