While working on my BS in Psychology I worked part time as a respite provider for children with brain, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Though I focused more on teaching social skills, I learned first hand that each child has a different way of learning and that not just one style is effective, especially for any special needs child. I graduated from Adams State College in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and an Emphasis in Literacy. I was a substitute teacher for grades K-5 for one semester. I began teaching Third Grade in the Fall of 2005. I taught all general subjects as a Third Grade teacher for 4 years. I also have experience as a Fifth Grade reading teacher. I resigned at the end of the 2009-2010 school year in order to pursue a degree in the area of Medical Assisting.

In College I would form groups to try and study for upcoming test or exams. Doing this it really helped me to learn what I was studying and how other people learn as well.
Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. If you try to cram or learn something to quickly it only become heartache and bad grades.
