While working on my BS in Psychology I worked part time as a respite provider for children with brain, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Though I focused more on teaching social skills, I learned first hand that each child has a different way of learning and that not just one style is effective, especially for any special needs child. I began tutoring in the sixth grade. We did not have honor courses where I attended, so older students tutored younger students. In college I tutored many subjects to earn money for my tuition. After graduating, I worked in two different school systems as a remedial teacher. I even designed a new remedial reading and spelling program for the one school. From 1991-1998, I worked at a Christian elementary school, where I was a librarian, bookkeeper, and substitute teacher.
