Through my life I have excelled in the subject of music. I am fortunate enough to have studied with great private instructors and professors, and am seasoned going on 5 years of teaching in the public school setting. As a high school instructor, I have 5 Choral ensembles in addition to my management of the Choral Department and courses of piano and American Contemporary Music. In previous years teaching, I have worked with grades 4-12 including general music curriculum, choral instruction and Marching Band. I love teaching students of all ages. It is very satisfying to see their eyes light up when they realize they got it. One method i use is to teach the the music that they love and apply the theory and technique to it, and gradually introduce them to more challenging works. I can improvise at a moments notice to help get the lesson across, even if it means focusing on one task at a time. My goal is to make the learning experience as pleasant as possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a musician, I have taught two private students in Electric Bass, taught a master class for a high school level jazz combo, conducted a high school band for a piece I composed and arranged, and played gigs with talented musicians in the Dartmouth area. I was a hockey coach for beginners for 6 years where I honed my skills as an instructor that make me very adept at teaching. I know many practice techniques and exercises for all levels of musicians that are up to date and effective.
I believe that musicians are all at different points on the same curve, and that every student learns in a unique way. I am versatile in my teaching methods and flexible with the pace of students. While at Vassar during my senior year, I was employed by the music department as the music history intern. In this position, I was expected to instruct students enrolled in the current music history course once a week in new material as dictated by the professor. In order to prepare for this, I met with the professor prior, but often I was given freedom to design the lesson on my own. I also completed a correlate sequence in medieval/Renaissance studies, and took an array of history, art history, religion, gender studies, and English classes in addition to my required music courses. Being able to write well was crucial to succeeding in these, and I was able to develop confidence and aptitude in writing recognized by my professors.
