A Little Bit About Me...

I LOVE teaching and believe that one-on-one work (and small group work) is highly effective. I strive to become my students' friend, while also maintaining a professional work environment. My strong background in working with children ages 3 and up that have come from different backgrounds and that have had unique needs has helped me to cater specifically to my students' individual needs.
I have a total of 15 years experience speaking, reading and writing Spanish. I am very familiar with the different Spanish language variants. I lived in Chile for almost two consecutive years, and studied in Costa Rica for a short time. My B.A. is in Anthropology and Spanish, and my M.S. is in International Studies. Hands-on with visuals and manipulatives. Kids learn by doing and actively engaging themselves in learning. This is a good picture of my teaching style. I love teaching children with a robust flavor of learning. Make it fun, and children usually will remember how they have learned a new skill. I taught fifth grade for many years and was always the testing grade for the state of Oklahoma. I have many years of experience in preparing students for testing.
Since I was very young I tutored my brother on many occasions in reading and math. I believe everyone has a gift, and I knew that teaching was that gift for me.
