My teaching style is not typical since I am not a certified teacher. I am creative in my teaching style using a variety of techniques. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. I try to teach using real life experiences and examples. I break things down into simple parts before moving on to the next level. I believe that it is important to instill confidence in the student which raises expectations and increases motivation. I am very patient with a good sense of humor.

I believe teaching is the key to each child's future. When presented with the chance to succeed, I believe each child will. I believe in presenting each child with a verbal and visual explanation of each objective. I then believe that each child needs the chance to complete a task with encouragement and success before independent work. Assessment should only be taken AFTER a child has experienced numerous chances for understanding, practice, and mastery. Flexibility is another thing that many students are not allowed in class, and I believe is very important to success. This is permitted in my classes on an as-needed basis. Each child achieves mastery at a different rate, and regardless of the rate, each child deserves the chance to reach that proficiency.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school student, I attended Tiffin University to gain college experience and credit earlier than expected. After graduating from Clyde High school, I went on to Ohio State Mansfield, where I majored in psychology and special education. I am currently a full time student at Ashford University online. I am studying to become an advocate for special needs persons and children. I have been tutoring students professtionally for the past year. I specialize in reading and math. I have experience with k-12. I am also comfortable with special needs and developmental disabilities.

I started tutoring in 7th grade back in 1976. I have been tutoring my own kids for over 14 years. I have been a Scout leader for over 9 years. I worked with boys ages 5 to 18 years of age. I have brought 2 learning disabled teens into my home to help them graduate High School. Both have gone on to be Certified Welders. I have presided over the Parental Acceptance Committee for both Fremont and all five of WSOS HeadStart Counties and all the centers in the School Districts of those counties. I am working on my Associate in Electronics and Computer Technology. I am also working on 17 IT Certificates and 9 Windows Certificates.
