Taking the fear out of testing, one session at a time

Currently I am tutoring Biology (among other sciences) as well as English at Pueblo Community College. I have been there for close to a half of a year at this point. I also have a 15 year old son who is in the IB program at Palmer. He does very well in school, I like to attribute that partially to my skills. I believe that we can all be our own very best resource in teaching ourselves how to learn and how to seek answers.

Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. Many of the students I trained were sent by their employers. So often, the student’s frame of mind wasn’t the most open to the learning experience.
