I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!
When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I have always been passionate about working with different students and finding their unique learning strategies. I love teaching, but more than anything I enjoy trying to figure out how to teach a child. Every child learns differently and I think its important to incorporate their personal interests. I enjoy setting attainable goals, with the students, and attaching rewards when they reach them.
As I began college, experience working with children also began. I started out in childcare facilities, with children 6 weeks to 12 years of age, and also in after school care working with preschool-3rd grade students. I continued with both jobs and gained more experience through field work. Upon graduation, I substitute taught in the middle school grades, with a long term position in Math. Over the past three years I have spent it working with students with disabilities such as cognitive, behavioral, emotional, autism, and traumatic brain injury.

After graduating college, I moved to California to earn my teaching credential. I earned it in K-12 Multiple Subject education. I have have 3 years experience teaching, and currently teach 1st grade in Cincinnati Public schools. I have tutored most all elementary grades, and have about 6 years experience doing so. I am patient with students, and my friendly demeanor helps them to be at ease.
