A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!
When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I love working with students of all ages. I believe that everyone can learn when they are given opportunities for success. Those opportunities most often give support to the student, but they also teach the student to take a responsibility for his or her own learning. I believe in teaching students to master concepts in such a way that they can also be successful unsupervised; thus, tutoring or additional instruction is an aid for success, not a crutch.

More About This Tutor...

As I began college, experience working with children also began. I started out in childcare facilities, with children 6 weeks to 12 years of age, and also in after school care working with preschool-3rd grade students. I continued with both jobs and gained more experience through field work. Upon graduation, I substitute taught in the middle school grades, with a long term position in Math. Over the past three years I have spent it working with students with disabilities such as cognitive, behavioral, emotional, autism, and traumatic brain injury.
I love teaching, but more than anything I enjoy trying to figure out how to teach a child. Every child learns differently and I think its important to incorporate their personal interests. I enjoy setting attainable goals, with the students, and attaching rewards when they reach them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach a hands on curriculum as much as possible. I constantly have visuals, or hands on manipulatives to helps students gain a better understanding. I believe that it's important to understand students' learning styles, and try to teach in a manner that "taps" into the various styles.
