Physics is one of my top subjects!

4 years of professional and peer tutoring experience through SUNY system schools including University at Buffalo and SUNY Morrisville, and occasional private students from schools SUNY Albany, Cortland, and Lemoyne College. Mostly upper level science classes. Also experienced in preparing for health related graduate and undergraduate exams including the GRE, MCAT and the NLN entrance exam. My track record with students speaks for itself and I've been happy to help students improve in pursuit of their academic goals.
Based on students learning style, an overview of the material is presented, followed by hands on activities to reinforce concepts.

I recently completed a two-month internship in TAS/OTS in EY this summer. From this experience, I gained valuable knowledge in the advisory area. I participated in a mobile internet App project for a startup technical company. The major goal for the project is to do financial forecasting for the company. In the group, my job was to help create a business plan report and translate from Chinese to English. I also worked on cash flow forecasting. As a team, we did a lot of calculation and researching of the data from client in order to evaluate the net income for up to three years. Through the estimated net income, we could evaluate how much the company need to as an investment and the risk level of the business. From this project, I applied finance and accounting skills from my MSA program. During the time at Deloitte in the summer 2012, I learned to use audit system 2 which is audit so ... read more

I believe it is very important to be constructive and patient when it comes to teaching. I believe that I am thoughtful, patient, considerate, and compassionate when it comes to teaching. I feel that it is extremely important not to give the student all the answers, but to assist them so they are able to use reasoning to figure out the solutions themselves. I feel that it is very possible that one person can be able to help make an important impact in a students' education.

A Little Bit About Me...

At the University of Illinois at Chicago I earned a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering and worked as a teaching assistant for three sememsters of graduate school. After leaving the university I tutored former students from my labs in math, science, engineering, and programming. I did this as hobby. I enjoy working with students. I am currently helping someone working on a master's degree in computer science.
I love teaching. I always get well prepared before I sit down with someone. A couple of hours of preparation beforehand can make the difference between a tedious, unproductive experience and one that encourages the student and makes the excited about learning. I try to help with sticking points and not to lecture. I have discovered that people tend to remember answer to their questions and if I try to explain a deeper meaning it will only bore them a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a strong proponent of critical thinking skills. For me, teaching is much more than being a content expert, but also a patient, yet demanding coach. Rote memorization is never enough; a thorough understanding of the underlying concepts and facts is crucial in achieving true mastery of a subject. The dynamic presentation style from my classroom work is brought to one-on-one tutoring as well.
My teaching experience began almost as soon as my higher education did, beginning as a Red Cross CPR instructor and then a volunteer tutor while an undergraduate. After earning my bachelor's degree, I worked with trouble youth. A desire to extend my learning led me to seek a Master's degree while working as a public school teacher. I continued with my goal to earn a doctoral degree and extended my teaching experience to the college level.

A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I work best with motivated students, even those with lower abilities, though I teach exclusively at the high school level and above. I am patient and one of my greatest assets is in analology; I have a profound ability to take complex ideas and make them simple.
I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. I have substituted in every major subject at the high school level. I have also been an adjunct professor teaching study skills and busin ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Between the years of 1978 and 1984 I was a monitor and then a supervisor in a small Christian school using the ACE curriculum. They have various programmed learning booklets teaching all of the major subjects. You are actually more of a tutor than a teacher if you work with these booklets. I have experience in the four major areas of learning which are English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. I was with students from first through twelfth grade. While I was college I had occasion to take two years of college level English and also statistics up through 600 level. The English helped when I was writing my Master’s Thesis, it was 120 pages long. My committee found it to be well written. The statistics was the basis for the thesis.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated high school in 2000 with a local diploma and then went on to college at Utica School of Commerce. I graduated in 2002 with an Associated Degree as an Administrative Specialist. I have worked at a few different jobs and just went back to college again at Utica School of Commerce and got my certificate degree as a Medical Office Assistant.
When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor!

A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my focus throughout my education career has been on motivation and creating a classroom community, but another important factor is learning how to present material in a fashion that is understandable to my students, and assessing to see if they get it is continually a challenge. I do believe in hands on experiences that teach students that they can influence their learning, giving them a sense of control in the classroom. My goal is to engage my students, and motivate them to be active and participate in the classroom. I feel that students learn best when they are able to discuss a subject, as well as create their own ideas in relation to what they are learning.

My content base focuses principally in the physical sciences and mathematics. I have tutored chemistry since my senior year in high school, and I continued to serve as an informal tutor to my classmates in my undergraduate studies. In graduate school, I have tutored college math, chemistry and physics. Between my experiences tutoring both high school and college students, I have an advanced skill set to work with adolescents and do ‘hard’ science. With my graduate degree in physics education, I know both what to teach and how to teach it when it comes to math and science. I bring tremendous energy, diverse skills, and advanced knowledge to my classroom. I bring no less with me to my tutoring.

I believe in the interactive teaching style which a teacher should adjust his/her teaching techniques according to students’ knowledge and their learning styles in order to enhance their understanding. I make my students feel comfortable so that I could learn who they are and develop my teaching style. Some students could learn a subject by, for example, repeating it while others remember it. The key of learning is to find their own styles and I hope I can help them find one. I encourage my students to have an open-mind of learning. Finding a fun way to teach or introducing them how useful the subject can be to them in the future could motivate students to have an eager to learn what they thought once to be difficult.

I have always enjoyed teaching people in a one-on-one or small group environment. It allows me to tailor my teaching style to fit the individual student or group I’m working with. I enjoy using creative methods to teach a topic, including creating multiple ways to explain a term or concept and providing analogies to concepts that are familiar to the student. All people comprehend concepts in different ways and at varying speeds. Thus as I teach a concept I am constantly looking for signs of understanding, and then stop and reinforce a concept when it is apparent that the student does not understand. Teaching is a very fluid process, one that requires acute understanding of the challenges students face when learning, and an active process that requires energy and intelligence on the part of the teacher, qualities I believe I possess.
