I seek to bring understanding to and appreciation for math.

Naturally, I aim to bring understanding to the problems/topics at hand. I also make sure to "fill-in-the-blanks" and bring understanding to any lacking pre-requisite knowledge.
I have been tutoring for over 5 years, both privately and with businesses. In regards to business, I have tutored at Glendora Learning Center (Math and Spanish tutor), the Azusa Pacific University Math Center (Math tutor), and the APU Learning Enrichment Center (Math and Spanish tutor). In regards to math, I am in progress of getting a bachelor's degree in mathematics. In regards to Spanish, I lived in Ecuador on two different occasions with a Spanish-speaking family.

My teaching style is to lead the student into an understanding of the material through discussion, hands-on projects, practice and mastery. It is important to master the previous material before moving on to the new. It is also important to relate new topics to what the student already knows. This helps the student to not only understand it better but also to remember it better and use it correctly. I am patient and creative in finding ways to present ideas in ways that will connect with real life. I believe that all children can learn, given the right methods and the willingness to learn.

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Physical Science from California State University, Fresno. I received my first teaching experience as a substitute teacher. I next worked as a long-term substitute teacher for a year. I was then offered a full-time, permanent teaching position as a fourth grade elementary school teacher. This position lasted three years. I will never forget the joy I received each time one of my students learned something that they had been struggling with for some time. Because of my work with persons who have physical and mental problems, I have learned to be patient and sharpen my listening skills. This way I am also able to recognize when someone is frustrated or exhausted and use these signs to better cope with any behavioral problems that may arise. I always utilize positive language and seek to understand an issue a student may have to help promote a comfortable learning environment.
