Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! Taught phonics to all four of my children (two of which were foreign speaking adopted from Russia and one of whom was dyslexic) until they became proficient readers and now love reading. Also was a literacy volunteer for 12 years for an adult reader. I have home schooled my children for 16 years and all four are in college now. Phonics was used to teach them to read. My youngest learned to read at a young age just watching her older siblings being given phonics lessons (from her high chair in the kitchen).

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it!
