Learning CAN be FUN!

I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. I got the teaching bug while teaching English as a Foreign Language in China. I taught there for almost 9 years altogether, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I now work as a substitute teacher for Lewis County Schools and I also volunteer in the school library where I help struggling students with reading.
I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very s ... read more

Degreed English/Reading/Writing Tutor With A Personal Touch!

Hello! I earned my Bachelor of Arts in psychology (3.5 GPA) in 2012 and have been tutoring English; ESL; reading; writing; and more for 8 years. I began as a volunteer through my university's writing lab, per recommendation by a cherished professor. I have worked with children and adults from a variety of cultures (South Korean; Venezuelan; Mexican; Turkish), and I have enjoyed playing the role of "student" in my own regard. I love to learn about other traditions and practices. One of the most rewarding experiences for me as a tutor was when I worked with a South Korean family for 1 year. While teaching two school age boys, I was privileged to be introduced to a bevy of Asian foods; practices; and even the Korean language itself. This family became my own extended family, and vice versa. This was a very poignant, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I gained a wealth of knowledge f ... read more

“I am not a teacher, but an awakener.” Robert Frost

I use a creative, hands-on teaching style. I break things down and present them in simple sequence, so students don't become overwhelmed. I am very patient. I try to incorporate fun, imagination, and creativity into learning activities.
I am an educator with 27 years of experience. I have both taught and tutored grades K-12. I have a special needs, vocational, and assessment background. I love teaching and working with students. I am very patient, easy-going, and encouraging. My teaching approach is creative and imaginative. I use methods to make lessons fun and enjoyable. I believe in using "the whole language approach," which helps to reinforce several skills at the same time. I am able to communicate my thoughts and ideas very clearly. My philosophy is that any subject can be learned, if it's presented in the correct way.

My teaching philosophy is to help students understand chemistry through four modalities: reading, listening, seeing and hands-on learning. To explain ideas in chemistry I can use various teaching aids such as 3-D models, chemistry-writing software, and visual demonstrations. I also try to relate chemistry to student’s real world experiences.
I am a part-time faculty at Robert Morris University. I have 10 years of formal experience teaching undergraduate chemistry courses in the classroom and in private both in-person and online. Beside this, I have also had experience during my research in teaching, both in one-on-one and in group settings including tutorials, meetings, seminars and conferences.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been studying the French language for eight years. I worked as a teacher's assistant in high school during my study hall where I was asked to conduct classes when the class had a substitute teacher, grade papers, and help students who may have questions. As a student at University of Cincinnati I am required to read several French novels, theatrical pieces, and poetry for each French class I am enrolled in. I completed a business french sequence which will grant me a business french certificate upon graduation. I am expected to engage in French only conversations on a daily basis as well as write papers, letters, resumes, and analyses in french.
I believe that teaching someone else what you have learned is one of the best ways to engrave it into our memory. I like to let students first "teach" me what they know, then correct them where they may have become confused. I ... read more

I currently am a senior at the University of Cincinnati studying Computer Science. Before my freshman year I was a part of the summer bridge program as a part of Emerging Ethnic Engineers through which community service plays a large pay role. Each summer during my college career I would assist the incoming summer bridge students with their studies which include a rigorous math and science curriculum. My personal favorite topic to assist with is physics. Furthermore, during the school year we would partake in math help nights where we would assist K-12 with problems they are having in their subjects.
