At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. I graduated with honors from a liberal arts school with a BA in mathematics. During my time there I had also taken many science classes both biological and physical. While I was there I tutored students in math and science and ran labs for several science classes as a Laboratory Assistant. After my time there I was accepted into and began studying for a MA in mathematics at Western Michigan University where I was given an assistantship.
