A Little Bit About Me...

I love the job of teaching language. So I was majoring in teaching Chinese language and literacy in Fujian Normal University when I was an undergraduate student. There, I had been trained to be a qualified Chinese teacher in China for four years, including course training and plenty of internships. Then I successfully gained the certification of teaching Chinese before graduating. After finishing undergraduate study, I came to the U.S., continued studied on language education. In addition to daily schooling works, I did a lot of jobs in teaching Chinese in local schools. For example, I'm an official teacher in Athens Chinese School (Athens, GA). Also, I worked as a free Chinese language tutor and organized Chinese language learning center in a local elementary school at Athens, GA. After graduating from graduate school, I work as a Chinese lecturer in different universities. Therefore, I ... read more

I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.
As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.

I have a passion for teaching and working with students, and I am highly energetic and enthusiastic in the classroom. I make it a priority to help students understand that even if a subject isn't enjoyable to them, it is still rewarding to achieve success with it. I make an effort to adapt to each students learning style, whether visual, kinesthetic, auditory, or something different. By reaching out to the student and engaging with them as an individual, I am able to help them develop and understanding of the content which works best for them. If my student can walk away knowing not just more about their subject, but more about how they function as a learner, then I've done my job.

I have worked hard over many years to asses the needs of individual students. Firstly, I assess the learning level and learning style of the student over the first week or two. Secondly, I approach the teaching style according to those findings. Thirdly, I assess the progress of the student in relation to the teaching style and make any necessary changes in approach. I teach students to look at (analyze) the music to find similarities, likenesses and problem spots. The results are excellent in seeing that the learner remembers lessons and instruction. The learning is long lasting and even permanent.

I feel confident that I can find the right style to fit each child. Each child learns differently and at a different pace, so there is no one style to apply. I am a level headed, kind, and extremely supportful individual, and I think it helps when someone lends a calming approach. Children just want to learn, they absorb everything, so for me to be able to come out of a session and know that I was able to get through to someone, is just wonderful!
I have earned a Bachelors degree in Accounting and have over 20 years experience in the field. In addition to working, have volunteered in my childrens classrooms when they were in elementary school. My most recent job, outside of Accounting, was a supervisory/management position, where people reported to me daily and I gave them feedback and helped them to see things more clearly. I found this experience to be very gratifying. I enjoy ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I believe in some degree of structure, I am very flexible in my teaching style. Every student is different - I work with each one individually to determine their goals and then develop an appropriate, unique program. Children learn best by actively participating in the material. I try to engage them as much as possible, whether it be with a lively discussion about music history, practicing and performing a piece of music until we are both satisfied with the result, or hearing and speaking French instead of simply memorizing the grammatical rules of the language.

I worked also with Après la classe (“after classroom”) – 16, rue Commines BP 3003 75121 Paris Cedex 3 – as a tutor from November 1999 to January 2000 and had three pupils: a little girl of 6 years old; we did a lot of reading, a teenager of 13 years old (her sister); we repeated her History and a student of 20 years old that was studying to be a midwife and had bad marks in French literature: I tried to make her love to read but I think that today, I would do better: I would give her some “tricks” to succeed: how to read a text, what “turns” to look for, how to call them (those parts), what for, what do they support, and so on...
