My teaching style can easily fit individuals of all ages. I like to teach people how to learn music quickly, and I use a method that incorporates both learning how to play by ear, and reading music. Using this method, my students can quickly learn how to play popular music that they will enjoy, as well as the classics. I believe that any student can easily learn to play the piano, regardless of their age or experience, with my method. As a music student at metro, and a jazz/classical pianist with over 15 years of experience, I’ve had a lot of experience teaching students musical technique, especially in terms of modern music/jazz. I’ve been in many different types of bands, ranging from classical quartets to rock bands, and have received several awards, including awards for musicianship at the Greeley jazz festival. I love, and am passionate about teaching children of all ages. I am a mother of three, and all of them have drastically different learning styles. I believe there are ways to teach that can encourage the child in their strenghts, and weaknesses and learn how to learn by emphasizing these strengths. I utilize several different teaching strategies and attempt to pull strengths from the youth and work with positives. I give examples and direct youth in the direction of the correct answers. I utilize reading and instructing out loud to the class, writing on the board for further and clearer instructions and information, using real life ideas and situations to help explain the lesson (ex. of using microwave and cooking to help explain temperature and gave reminders at the end of class for work completion, assignments and expectations. I am firm with some basic expectations and allow for some freedoms that seem to benefit the flow of the class and avoid power struggles and the potential for additional problems.
