Experience Summary
For the last 3 years I have been working as a special education teacher at a non-proft treatment facility. I enjoy working with children. I conduct myself in a very positive manner and do a very good job in navigating between teaching material to the class and supportively intervening with behavior challenges and conducting solid classroom management. On two different occasions in the first class, I addressed a concern, did not power struggle and both situations ended up positively for the youth and for the rest of the class.
Teaching Style
I utilize several different teaching strategies and attempt to pull strengths from the youth and work with positives. I give examples and direct youth in the direction of the correct answers. I utilize reading and instructing out loud to the class, writing on the board for further and clearer instructions and information, using real life ideas and situations to help explain the lesson (ex. of using microwave and cooking to help explain temperature and gave reminders at the end of class for work completion, assignments and expectations. I am firm with some basic expectations and allow for some freedoms that seem to benefit the flow of the class and avoid power struggles and the potential for additional problems.
