My style of teaching includes visual explanation (white board or chalk board), oral discussion, and hands-on manipulation when ever possible. I try to use as many teaching styles as possible as not all students learn via the same means. My style is also fexible based on the student I am instructing (age or handicaps). I believe the best way to teach science is to make it a fun and inquisitive experience. I hold a BS and MS in Biology. I started to tutor college student while an undergraduate at Mesa State College.I was awarded the GK-12 Fellowship for two years while at the University of Northern Colorado. This fellowship placed me in k-12 classrooms to aid in teaching sciene. I love helping others learn and get through tough subjects. I loved homework all throughout school and would love a chance to be able to help others with theirs. I graduated high school in the International Baccalaureate program with a 4.5 gpa and 30 college credits. I then went on to the University of Colorado starting out as a sophomore. As a teacher of multiple grades, I prefer a unit study approach, allowing each child to learn according to his own learning style. Prescribing to a system entitled the 4Mat SystemTM, I have embraced the outcomes of such a system which include improved retention, higher achievement, increased motivation, improved thinking skills, and lower remediation. The 4Mat SystemTM consists of four steps: the first step creates a reason; it motivates the student by making the lesson meaningful to his life. Concept Development gives the facts and is accomplished through research. Next you expand the lesson by letting the student try it out; they should do something with what they have learned. Finally, allow the student to excel by letting them teach it to themselves and others. While this system works well for multiple grade teaching, I am not entirely opposed to a more classical approach. P

I enjoy working with youth to help them achieve success in many aspects of their lives. The one-on-one attention may be all a child needs to move forward when he/she is struggling in the classroom. I am a patient, detailed, and organized person. I have a great work ethic and strive to show youth that success can be achieved in many different forms. Finding the right motivator and "language" can make all of the difference in a confusing subject. Having earned a master's in psychology, I have extensive knowledge in this area. I have worked on many papers and reports throughout my college years, so I have strong proofreading and grammar skills. In my opinion every student learns in a different way giving his or her own approach to developing an understanding of new unfamiliar knowledge. Also these same students shift their methods depending upon the material being introduced and discussed. It is for this reason that I seek to first try to carefully understand the students learning style and adjust my teaching style to match. Examples: Leaning by example, teacher solves a math problem for the student in a step-by-step approach with the benefit of why the teacher is using these particular steps and approach.
