I have a love for learning and teaching!

I have been teaching special education for six years. I taught special education to kindergarten through third grade in a Montessori school for four years. I have experience in teaching students with disabilities in reading, writing, and math. Many of my students have also been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, autism, learning disabilities, and emotional impairments. I am currently teaching my second year at a center-based school for autism. In my teaching career, I have used a variety of hands-on material and visuals. I am also a native German speaker. I grew up in Northern Germany and I am therefore familiar with the German culture as a child as well as an adult.

Hello, my name is John Hett and I am passionate about teaching children and adults how to read. I am a "Highly Effective" Michigan certified teacher in the area of Learning Disabilities, Secondary English, and Secondary Social Studies. I prefer to work with students who are dyslexic or have a language processing problem. I currently teach high school English with a focus on writing. I have 22 years experience using the Orton-Gillingham Method. I use materials from the Wilson Reading System due to ease and cost. Parents must purchase these materials prior to instruction.
