When teaching I like to base the curriculum off of interests of the child so they can understand on a personal level, and also be excited to learn and relate what they learn to the things that they enjoy. I do not personally own any curriculum or books.
I am 17 years old and I love working with and teaching kids. I have experience with teaching a bible group for second graders at my church, and I know how to get your child excited about the many things they can accomplish by learning. I am a senior in high school and have a GPA of 3.7. I have taken AP classes and 4 years of Spanish. My best academic subjects are math, science, and reading. I am skilled in music and am taking a college level music theory class, so if you're looking to learn or have your child learn either piano, guitar, or voice I can help in that as well.

More About This Tutor...

I have always had a passion for learning, and helping others learn. In middle school, High School and College, other students came to me for help with assignments. Knowing what it is like to be a student, I try to see from the students point of view. Each student teaches me their own way to learn. I enjoy learning and hope that I can share that joy with others.
My degree in Engineering has given me plenty of experience in math and science. I have also had graduate courses in Physics and Engineering. As a graduate student at UNT, I instructed several physics and astronomy labs and learned first hand what teaching can be like. I have since felt that teaching math and science is a career I want to pursue.

I am direct but patient. I want the child to know my expectations immediately and do our best to see that they are successful. I believe helping the child learn how to learn is the number one goal. By them teaching themselves how to acquire material, they will be that much more successful in the future. It is also always important ot involve parents in the tutoring process so they may know the child's learning statu ... read more

I believe the true way to teach is to make a connection for each student: relate the material to something the student already knows. A more “hands-on” approach will allow the student to learn faster with greater retention. I feel that every student has the ability to learn, and that it is the teacher’s job to provide each student with the connection. In today’s age, classrooms have become over-crowded thus making it more difficult for the teacher to make that connection. It is the job of the tutor to fill in the gaps. With this theory, I try to use my experience in the work field to relate the subject matter to the student’s surroundings – hence math and science are my forte. I work well with children by making learning fun, but also have the knowledge of complex problems to provide the same environment for high school and college students.

I enjoy the wonders of discovery and assisting others with master concepts and practical logic that helps them in every aspect of their lives. Tutoring is not so simply as to aid a child in finding the answer or getting a college student to pass the examine. It is truly the disciplined approach to knowledge and truth that allows one to branch into new facets of understanding and truth. To tutor means to assist another in seeking real truth and understanding that will allow success and confidence to build.
I have a passion for language and rhetoric. Words, truth, knowledge, and exploration have marked my academic career. I studied with two colleges during my Associate years in order to obtain lessons in Japanese. A Little Bit About Me...

I love Science and Mathematics, and sharing this knowledge and these ideas with others. I emphasize problem solving skills that start with defining the problem, then identifying the relevant data given and always keeping in mind the final goal. Reaching the goal may involve a number of steps, so organizing your work is a key skill in the process. Once a goal is identified, the definitions, ideas, and theories that will help you arrive at the solution must always be kept in mind and tested for relevance during the process. With proper organization the task becomes much simpler to accomplish.
I graduated from Stephen F Austin State University in 2006 with a B.S. majoring in both Mathematics and Chemistry. I also have 20 college hours in Physics as well as 16 college hours in Biology. The educational goals of the departments is that it is not enough to do well on exams and homework, ... read more
