I have a BA in Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture. I also studied French and Italian during my time in college. I am Brazilian and speak fluent Portuguese as well. To my recollection, all of my averages for language classes were at least 90 overall, and most were in the high 90s - 100. I have studied Spanish for a total of 8 years. I have a love for languages and am confident I could assist any student in obtaining a better grade.
Each student learns a little differently. My goal is to learn about the student and their interests and incorporate their life and their interests into the lesson as much as possible. In terms of languages, sometimes turning lessons into games can be helpful. I intend to make lessons fun so they are more likely to be remembered!

Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need. Through my participation in Mercy Action, I raised money for mentally delayed children, and set up numerous barbeques for them. Later, I began tutoring a young brazilian boy in the 5th grade. He needed help with all of his studies, especially math and english. As a political science major, I have gained experienced in essay writing, grammatical skills and research methods.
Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. I also believe it is easier for a child to ask questions when they are one on one with an educator.

My teaching style will vary depending on the class as a whole or the type of student I am working with individually. In order to be an effective teacher I have seen that I need to be flexible with how I present material to a student. If a student is visual I am able to create diagrams and use props to show a concept rather than only speak the material. Some students need hands on and things like manipulatives in math help create a concrete way to remember a concept, and this is also something I do. In my mind success as a teacher is largely based on the success of the student and I am able to figure out what a specific child needs and adjust my teaching style to that student.

As a Syracuse University graduate, I studied at the Maxwell School and the Whitman School of management. Maxwell is recognized worldwide for its expertise in public policy and economics. I have taken 3 courses in statistics, 1 in calculus and 1 econometric course which is statistics and calculus combined. Also, because I was enrolled in 2 separate programs I have taken 15 credits of natural science and 12 credits of english. I feel well polished in many areas of academia and I work well with students, considering there are 8 teachers in my family and I've been around the teaching environment for quite some time.
I'm very laid back and patient when it comes to teaching. I can empathize with students who have difficulty in a subject because at one point in my educational career I had trouble and needed help. I do believe that almost every one is capable of learning and progressing, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My extensive experience in different subjects and venues has engendered in me an adaptive teaching style. I am very comfortable teaching in both a classroom setting as well as one-to-one. I truly believe that the key to learning is proper motivation. Rather than giving answers to a student who is having difficulties, I prefer to guide students, prodding them along in the right direction with directed prompts. My goal is to have a student retain what he or she has learned from going over a particular subject rather than simply memorize and immediately discard.

I went from a child who didn't enjoy reading to a young adult who finds enjoyment in books. I also recognize how having a passion to read provides that individual with the ability to ultimately obtain a higher position in a career, which in turn allows him or her to be more able to provide for his or her family. Reading isn't just about the stories - it's about the vocabulary and the knowledge gained from reading. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature, and my GPA was 3.34. I have learned extensive grammatical skills from writing essay papers in various areas of study. I want to show other students how to love reading and learning.
I have complete confidence that all children are able to learn, but I also understand that some children are bored with it. While I was in high school I had a few teachers who put me to sleep. I didn’t learn anything from them, because ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

A teacher can be anyone, but not everyone can be a teacher. Every child has a unique learning style and it is the job of the teacher to understand this and find the best way to teach the child. I am a patient and understanding person because I once to was a student. I knew that I had certain learning styles that worked better than others, but I could not tell the teacher this. I also knew that not every student learned the same way I did. As a future educator, it is important to see this so you do not assume all the students in your class will learn the same way.

I am a patient person who is used to tutoring students as that is what homeschooling is. I believe in learning by doing, experiential education. Many students think that they can't do something that is hard, but when it is broken down into small pieces, they find that it is not as difficult as they thought. I believe that all children should be allowed to learn at their own pace. "Getting things done is not always what is most important. There is value in allowing others to learn, even if the task is not accomplished as quickly, efficiently or effectively." -- R.D. Clyde
I attended Houghton College for 2 1/2 years. Then I went to NCCC and earned an AS, then transferred to Charter Oak State College. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and helping children to succeed. I believe that it is important for children to develop a life long love of learning. This should be accomplished through a safe and supportive environment and facilitated by a child-centered curriculum. I also believe students learn best when they can relate to what they are learning, as well as being immersed in it. This is best accomplished through integrated learning. I believe that a teacher is both a facilitator of learning as well as a positive role model. All children need the opportunity to explore themselves and figure out what they are good at and what they like, and I will be there to guide the children.

I love to work with children everyday. I believe children have different learning styles and it is important to find out each child's learning style to better meets their academic needs. I aso believe that teaching through a constructivist approach is important. Children learn by discovery. Each child can reach their ultimate potential if they are given the right academic tools.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. I have substituted in every major subject at the high school level. I have also been an adjunct professor teaching study skills and business english at a local college.
I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I work best with motivated students, even those with lower abilities, though I teach exclusively at the high school level and above. As a seasoned teacher, I find that appealing to each of the teaching styles is essential. Individually or in combination; visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile teaching styles are necessary for all of us to learn successfully, whether it be in a classroom of multiple learning needs students or just tutoring one student; be it one child, an adolescent, or an adult. The goal for the teacher is to assist the student in achieving a sense of success, while making learning enjoyable. Having reached success in a task, the learner feels a greater sense of self-worth.
