I attended Houghton College for 2 1/2 years. Then I went to NCCC and earned an AS, then transferred to Charter Oak State College. They took all the credits I had earned as a student at both schools, allowed me to define my degree, told me which additional credits I needed and granted my degree. I have homeschooled my children for 15 years. My oldest is 19 and going to RIT in the fall. He has an AS which he got the week he turned 18. I also have two teens whom I currently school. Each student learns a little differently. My goal is to learn about the student and their interests and incorporate their life and their interests into the lesson as much as possible. In terms of languages, sometimes turning lessons into games can be helpful. I intend to make lessons fun so they are more likely to be remembered!
I have a BA in Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture. I also studied French and Italian during my time in college. I am Brazilian and speak fluent Portuguese as well. To my recollection, all of my averages for language classes were at least 90 overall, and most were in the high 90s - 100. I have studied Spanish for a total of 8 years. Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. I also believe it is easier for a child to ask questions when they are one on one with an educator.
Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need.
