Encouraging & Patient Elementary Tutor

I have grown up around kids my whole life. I am the oldest of four kids and my mom has a day-care in her home. I always thought I wanted to be a singer until I decided my junior year in high school I need to pick a more stable job. I took an internship my senior year of high school where I spent half the day at school and the other half as an intern in a Kindergarten class. I loved it and knew I wanted to teach for the rest of my life. I went a private school in Indiana and graduated in 2015 with my degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. My student teaching was in a high ability first grade classroom and a K-3 special education classroom. This past year, I was a second grade teacher in Indiana and I am currently an RTI (response to intervention) Tutor at Herberich Primary School in Fairlawn, Ohio in the Copley-Fairlawn school district. I love students and en ... read more

Dyslexia Specialist/K-4 general and special education tutor

I have been in Education for 19 years, but have been a teacher much longer than that! I have been involved in teaching somehow since I was a young girl, working as a Sunday School teacher or as a teacher for Vacation Bible School, as a camp counselor for the YMCA Daycare program and as a tutor while in college. I have been a certified teacher for 19 years, spending most of those years in Special Education. I started my career as a substitute teacher in Northeast Ohio, moved to Texas to teach Special Education as a resource teacher, moved to teaching third grade and then back to Special Education as an Intervention Specialist working with small groups of students in all grade levels. In 2007, I became a certified Dyslexia Specialist and immediately felt I had found my niche in Education. I love working with small groups of students, really focusing on their individual needs as learne ... read more

When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.
Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or eve ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a full time student and a full time employee of the General Electric Company I did not have the time to goof around. I had to be driven and utilize my time to accomplsh the most amount in the least amount of time. Therefore I have been able to use my experience to help students learn quickly and easily. I have spent time with students of all ages and have learned how to make connections with them. As a substitute teacher I have taught in every subject in every grade level. However, English is where I am strongest.
I have always wanted to be a teacher, I couldn't really see myself doing anything else. I try to make learning and inclusive experience for all children. I feel that sometimes children's different learning styles get overlooked and then as a community we have a child that is left feeling that they are unworthy. My goal is to help all children learn at their pace ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from Youngstown State University with my Bachelors of Science in Education in May 2009. During my four years there, I have learned how to prepare developmentally age-appropriate lesson plans, the importance of applying reflective practice based on achievement of learning goals, as well as fostering collaborative relationships to support student learning and well-being. My student teaching and substitute teaching experiences really allowed me to see and demonstrate the belief that all students can learn which has given me a deeper passion for education.
As a pre-service teacher I hope to help change students in a positive way. I am looking forward to building a rapport with them and engaging them into trying new activities that will build their self confidence and their autonomy. Throughout my college experience I have learned the importance of becoming a model and a pr ... read more

During my freshman and sophomore year at Augusta State University, I tutored children at the Kid's Restart Center. The center is designed to assist foster children in their school studies. I have taken several advanced math courses and have a deep understand of the basic math and English skills students need to succeed over a lifetime.
I have worked with children for over ten years. I specialize in helping children who struggle with comprehending math and English. I understand that all children cannot learn in the same manner. I beleive that patience and kindness are a key factor of working with students. As students are attempting to master content that is difficult, the teacher should demonstrate encouragement and patience. I also believe students learn in different manners. Therefore, if a student is not comprehending the information in the traditional manner, then a different approach is necessary.

From all of my vast experiences I have found that I can teach anyone, anytime, anywhere and they will learn no matter what challenges are present. Here is Some Good Information About Elementary Phonics Tutoring

Most children begin learning phonics by sounding out letters and learning what items represent that sound and that letter, i.e. A is for apple; A sounds like “aaaaaaaaaaaaaa”. Children begin learning phonics from parents, siblings, videos, and music at a very early age (2-4 years old) even before entering school. Phonics involves teaching how to connect the sounds of spoken English with letters or groups of letters and teaching them to blend the sounds of letters together to produce approximate pronunciations of unknown words.
