A Little Bit About Me...

Enjoyed the optional tutoring throughout college and mandated training of others throughout professional life. Love the satisfaction that comes from passing on complete understanding of subject matter to others. Great believer in learning by doing. Fully realize that all obstacles to learning can be removed or overcome.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught in both public schools and a school for multiple handicapped children. I am also experienced with high achieving physics students. I believe in learning through experience, and finding a venue that the learner understands to set the experience. I also believe in test taking , essentialist philosophy, because test taking to demonstrate comprehension is necessary to communicate understanding and advancement to college and beyond.
My teaching experience spans college freshmen physics to middle school math. I converted to education after 20 years as a materials engineer in a number of industrial manufacturing companies. I have completed a state certified certificate program and did my student teaching in physics at a local high school. I am most experienced with secondary students grades 9-12 but have recently tutored college math, physics and chemistry students. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I currently teach high school science. In the past four years I have taught classes such as physical science (an introductory course to physics and chemistry), biology and anatomy & physiology. I currently have a BS in Animal Science and a Master's of Art and Teaching in General Science. I also hold certification to teach Biology in the state of New Hampshire.
I enjoy teaching high schoolers for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of how honest I can be with them. I enjoy teaching hands-on, real life application of the sciences in a way that students can understand the concept as well as the usefulness to them out in the real world. My goal is not to be the student's friend or even their favorite teacher, but to be fair and prepare them for what life might throw at them outside of the classroom. I want them to have the tools and discipline to succeed in the real world.

More About This Tutor...

I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo. Finally, I was a substitute teacher for two years at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School, in Belmont, New Hampshire.
My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena.

More About This Tutor...

I graduate May 2009 from Simmons College with a BS in Biochemistry. My courses taken during my undergraduate career were heavily focused in the sciences. I’ve taken upper level chemistry, physics, biology, and math courses. I tutored a student in zoology for a brief period of time. I was also a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry I and II labs. I often met with students outside of lab to help clarify information and help answer questions on particular concepts and problems. I am furthering my own education by attending the University of Glasgow in the fall. There I will be studying veterinary medicine, which again is heavily focused in the sciences.
I believe knowledge and success go hand-in-hand. That’s one of the main reasons I enjoy teaching and tutoring students of all ages. I’m grateful for the people in my life that have taken the time to teach and show me vario ... read more

More About This Tutor...

In the classroom I rely on traditional lecture, supplemented by Powerpoint presentations, animations, and lists and diagrams on the white board. I usually assign a research paper. In the last few semesters I've implemented through Blackboard some online testing, as well as tutorial "homework" quizzes, where the students get feedback directing them to coverage of particular sections of the text. I always try to make students aware of how the detailed, technical concepts of the moment fit into the "big picture," making references both to material previously covered and to material yet to come.
I have a BA in Microbiology and an MA in Zoology. I have 7-8 years experience teaching biology, ecology, microbiology and environmental science at the college level. In addition I have many years experience in software engineering, technical writing, software quality assurance, and technic ... read more

During the past few years, I have tutored students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus and Physics. I also tutored math and science many years ago when I lived in New York City.
Students have different learning styles, so I try to adapt my tutoring style to best suit the needs of the student. I have a unique ability to explain complicated concepts on a simple level. I try to make sure that the student really understands the concepts, rather than just teaching him ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Recently, I received my BS in Mathematics and BA in Physics, with honors. I am taking time off before entering graduate school and this position will surely be a fulfilling experience in the mean time. You will notice that I have been a tutor most of my college life; tutoring was my most fulfilling and enjoyable part- time job. I have tutored several Mathematics courses, including Geometry, Algebra, and Calculus since my sophomore year, both one-on-one and in groups with up to 20 students of all levels. I completed over 120 contact hours my last semester alone.
I have a passion for making students of different age groups grasp concepts of Mathematics in their own way. After evaluating the way the student understands different concepts, I will strive to make them understand the problems completely. The student and I will discuss what his/her difficulties are and we will work on them ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My experiences as a tutor and teacher have taught me enthusiasm and encouragement go a long way in helping a student both tackle and tolerate, if not enjoy, the subject. A few small successes give a student the self esteem to continue pursuing harder problems in a difficult subject. It is always important to start small, and work one's way up at the student's own personal pace. Adapting to the learning style of the individual is extremely important when working one-on-one. There are many ways to learn; verbal, visual, hands-on, reading instructions, etc... Learning is never one-size-fits-all and I try to keep that in mind as I teach.
As an undergraduate, I was an enthusiastic student and often helped and tutored my peers. I began to tutor "professionally" my second year, teaching chemistry and mathematics to college students. I was chosen by my biochemistry professor to teach chemi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught undergraduate Physics for 9 years at Colby College, a liberal arts college in Waterville, Maine. I emphasized both conceptual understanding and problem solving. Since Physics is a highly mathematical subject, I also taught a lot of Math techniques, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Another important component of any science is the communication of scientific results, and I placed a heavy emphasis in my classes on students learning how to write clear and well-organized research papers and lab reports. My own writing experience is substantial; I am first author on ten articles published in professional journals. I also excelled in my high school and college French classes and spent a year living in Paris.
The hallmark of my teaching at Colby was my availability to students who needed academic help. I offered individual assistance to students during pre ... read more

My gift is my teaching ability. My family, friends, and associates all tell me so. My style is marked by patience. I strive to stimulate in students the joy that comes from discovery. I put a human face on the subject matter by introducing students to the giants in the field. You can sample this approach by viewing the blog I published for my science talk to 8th graders at: http://bit.ly/iAVaEB. “If I have seen further, it is from standing on the shoulders of giants.” Isaac Newton This worked for Newton and it sure works for me. It can work for your student too. “The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind.” Kahlil Gibran?

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently earned a BS in Physics, with minors in Mathematics, Economics, and Asian Studies. During my four years working toward my degree, I worked as a tutor to students of other physics courses as well as a teaching assistant to Professors. This enabled me to develop various teaching styles and practice the computational and comprehensive materials I had already learned.
I like to begin tutoring a new student by having them review for me the material they have already learned. This allows me to develop a sense of their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their learning style. Often, I have students practice problems to reinforce concepts they already know and help build confidence in their problem solving abilities. In occasions of group tutoring, I try to have students help each other, as the teaching process is one that helps build a stronger idea of the concept at hand. I fe ... read more
