Prior to offering piano lessons out of her residence in Waxhaw, North Carolina, Brittany Smith studied classical music for over 15 years all the way through advanced musical literature – 9 of those years being under the professional instruction of Valerie Chamberlin. In 2008, she graduated from the Certificate of Merit with honors through the Music Teachers Association of California. Time Tested Teacher

I began my 32 year teaching career in the field of music. I taught in the Visalia Unified School District in Visalia, California. I taught classroom music to children in grades 4-6. This was a job that required traveling from school to school encompassing 12 schools a week. During that time, I worked on completing a fifth year of college in order to obtain an elementary teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. Upon completion on my student teaching in a second grade classroom, I began a teaching position in Lindsay, California teaching 2nd grade for 4 years there. A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my professional teaching experience was with Lexington/Richland School District 5, where I substituted and taught General Music from 1997-2008. During that time I worked with students from Pre-K - 5th grade, and I enjoyed interacting with each age group. One interesting thing about teaching music was how the lessons often carried over to other subjects, so that in music class we also worked with math and science (music theory), reading (song lyrics), and social studies (music origins and styles). In addition to classroom experience, I have also worked one-on-one, teaching private piano lessons and tutoring with an adult literacy program. My college credits included 15 hours in French and an English minor.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and showing them something new. I feel a sense of reward when a student of mine realizes that they have a new concept. When the lightbulb comes on it is the best feeling in the world. I believe that given the right tools and the right environment all students can learn anything that they put their minds to.
