I believe that students need guidance and structure in order to reach their highest potential. In the classroom, instruction can only be differentiated so much. Individual tutoring would allow me the chance to really meet a student at their level and understand their learning style. I am currently in my first year teaching in Indianapolis. I began college as an engineering major, so I have background in advanced mathematics and physics. I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free. I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class.
