I want you to be successful in learning!

I have experience with teaching adults how to read at my local literacy organization. Also, I have tutored children with Reading and Math. I was a substitute teacher for students from Pre Kindergarten through High School with different subjects and disciplines. I can freely tutor others because of the experiences that I have had while earning my degrees. Helping others learn is a passion of mine.
My teaching style is mainly dependant on the person that I am tutoring. If a student needs to take a slower process to learn than I am adaptable to that. The same is true for someone who has a little faster pace. I am flexible.

I earned my undergraduate degree of History at The College of Charleston. From there I have been teaching various subjects such as math, Algebra, Geometry, World Geography, U. S. History, Economics, Government. I have taught in many middle and high schools throughout SC and NC. During the last five years I have tutored part time while I taught. Positive reinforcement is the key. When a student sees that an adult is taking an honest interest in them, then they are not only more willing to learn, but more able. Telling a child "I know you can do it" instead of "you can do better than that" is imperative. Even the most tempermental or unmotivated student can be helped as long as that personal connection is there. I have always found that boosting their self-confidence, and thus reducing their stress/frustration level can work wonders. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than being able to connect with a child who has been labled "difficult" or "unwilling".

As a teacher, classroom experiences have made me realize all students do not learn the same fashion. Some students are more aggressive and advanced but there are those who are silent and will not speak out about difficulties understanding competencies. I prefer not to embarrass those students but give them the opportunity to learn one-on-one. While some students have a difficult time with teacher/student ratio, I like to give the option of working with another student who may understand the content and can teach another peer.
