My name is Andrea Richards. I have been teaching in the elementary school for 27 years. I have been a certified Reading Interventionist since 2005. At that time I was trained in Reading Recovery. My discontinuation rate averages over 80%. I was also trained at The Ohio State University in how to implement Leveled Literacy Intervention developed by Fountas and Pinnell. I love teaching and seeing students understand.

I have taught Elementary Education in Ohio for 30 years. I taught GED for Garrard County for 10 years.I have always enjoyed working with students who do not understand their subjects, especially in Math. I will change the teaching to fit the student, if understanding is not happening. There is nothing like hearing a student say, "Now I understand, no one has ever shown me that learning can be fun!"

I feel each child is unique, so their learning style is unique. I especially enjoy using the explorative method of teaching where the child is encourage to explore, examine, and discover with my assistance. I believe that each child has a gift and it is my job to discover where their strengths lie and to foster that strength and know where their weaknesses are and kindle their desire to make those stronger. I enjoy helping others understand statistical concepts as well as how they can be applied. I think it is important to have a great deal of patience when teaching and to always make it fun when possible. Also, I find it useful to remember that I was once learning statistics and remember the great skill of my professors and how integrative and exciting they made the process. I work best with pre-school, kindergarten, and first graders and have had lots of experience with Spanish speaking children. I consider myself a hands-on teacher.
