A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation.

I would describe my teaching style as loving, caring and understanding. I know that everyone is unique and has different capabilities. I try to reach out to all of my students. Everyone is good at something. Sometimes it takes time to bring the best out in students. Patience is key! I try to bring in outside materials and relate the topic to everyday circumstances and situations. If students can relate, they will store the new information into their long-term memory. A Little Bit About Me...

My tutoring style is that of thorough explanation. I don't give the answers but, rather, coach the individual to determine the answers on his/her own and then provide the theory as to why the answer is correct. I am very compassionate, cheerful, and outgoing, and those personality traits, as well as my passion for learning, teaching and interacting with children of all ages come through in my instruction.
