My comments on tutoring Guitar : I have played guitar for years.

I am an honors graduate of U.S.F. with forty years of teaching experience. In addition to my B.A. and M.A. degrees, I completed all cousework for the ED.D. I have taught FCAT preperation in middle school in math and reading. I have also taught GED Prep in the evenings. I taught junior high math one year. I have also written two books. One is a history jokebook. The other is a memoir of humorous classroom incidents. I believe that these experiences qualify me to tutor social studies, reading, and math.
My style is student centered. I always try to provide a positive atmosphere for learning. My jokes were a technique to help accomplish that goal. As a GED teacher I always began with a pretest and documented student progress to correct any deficiencies. I believe in positive reinforcement and helping students achieve their goals which gives us both a sense of accomplishment.

Guitar is one of my top subjects! Been studying guitar since the age of 8. I currently am applying to college to study Music Performance (guitar), but can teach basic and to some extent advanced Guitar Performance and Theory

I have been a tutor for many different areas, primarily music, during my High School years. Have worked in a program that focused in teaching poor homeless children to play various instruments. I also taught them how to build and maintain their instruments, and learned myself how to do it. I have also given tutoring in school subjects and have helped a few students understand subjects better. These include, History (20th Century), Music Theory, Spanish, English and Philosophy. Up to a few months ago, I have been tutoring 4 boys from middle school with their science, social studies and math homework.
I am a very patient person, but do admire and require people to be respectful in every sense of the word. I do not like sitting in front of the students begging him or her to pay attention. I like having engaged students that do their best to understand or learn. Regarding the m ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I look at each student as an individual with specific learning styles that they respond best to. My goal is to identify the learning style or styles of your student and then apply my creative mind to finding ways to present information. Positive reinforcement has given me the best success with students through the years. I believe there are no stupid questions and assess continually until I know that a concept has been grasped. Celebrations of milestones and victories are a large part of what I do as I believe self-esteem and failure can be the biggest obstacle a student must overcome.
As a graduate of Humboldt State University with a BA and a 2 year post-graduate certificate to teach, I have been led through an array of opportunities over 28 years. I have dealt with special needs children, teens, preschoolers, elementary children and taught any subject placed in front of me. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In a little under two years, I have spent my teaching experience abroad, splitting time between contract work in South Korea and Costa Rica as an English Language Instructor of both Elementary and Adult Language Education in 2nd Language Acquisition. In my experience, I came to understand that teaching language covers more than just the basics of speech and pronunciation, but developing ways in which to effectively communicate in which both teacher and student are able to relate the same ideas with one another, which include not only the areas of reading, writing, and speech, but also areas of math, science, art, physical education and wellness, and music as well.
I find teaching to be an enriching field that allows me the creativity and flexibility to allow necessary adjustments to the core curriculum based on the student or group of students learning abilities and styles. Every ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I employ the multiple intelligence philosophy when working with students. I believe that all students can learn; we must be able to identify their innate learning style and utilize that with innovative ways to teach them. The way information is presented can make it easier to grasp. I always look for the small successes, and praise the student, so that they gain added confidence to accomplish the more challenging ones.
I have been educating children who are experiencing difficulties in their learning through private and small group instruction for over 12 years. In addition to my BA and MBA, I have earned a certification from Structure of Intellect, Vida OR, so that I can assess the learning skills of students then train the brain to receive and process information in new ways. I work with all levels of students(K - 12)primarily in Mathematics and English.

The fears, doubts and anxieties that all students must deal with on an ongoing basis is something I am very familiar with both from a student standpoint as well as an academic advisor. To guide and to inspire the student to become an active, self-monitoring and independent learner is only half the battle, yet it is one of my skills. Without the ability to communicate genuine love and concern teaching becomes obsolete.

I have a Master's in Anthropology and have spent 8 years in the field working case studies on the effects of domestic violence on children under the age of 16. I have also spent 4 years analyzing these effects and comparing them to the amount of children who move on to have violent and abnormal outburts of anger and rage.
I believe that every student deserves their own personal attention. Every individual has their own learning style and relates to their teacher differently than anyone else. I find my productivity and enjoyment only comes from accomodating to each students personalities, goals, and learning style.

Taught guitar independently for about three years in a music store in Connecticut. Also taught in Lisbon Middle School for one year. I've also been involved with teaching guitar and other subjects over a broad range of topics and years.
While I can be flexible in style and content, I lean toward contemporary interaction with less rigid guidelines. As a child progresses, I feel it necessary to adapt the their specific needs and abilities.
