A Little Bit About Me...

I find it thoroughly enjoyable to work with children. My time teaching in Peru has definitely confirmed that for me! I am patient, responsible, and easy going. I think that knowledge can be gained in many ways, and it doesn't have to just be from a book or someone lecturing to you. Through getting to know the students, I try to find creative ways, such as games, songs, and crafts to help the student gain an even better understanding of the subject. A Little Bit About Me...

On first obtaining my degree in South Africa, I taught there as a Fourth Grade teacher for three and a half years. My other classroom experience was in 1997-1998 when I taught as a substitute teacher at an elementary school in South Saint Paul. Those two experiences have taught me that the academic subject to which I am most drawn is English. Although most of my teaching experience since then has been in music, I feel that teaching piano is the same thing as tutoring. I really enjoy the one-on-one in my piano lessons, and find it extremely rewarding to come up with new ways of teaching a concept that a student is finding confusing. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.
I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.
