As a graduate from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, I have been well prepared in my chosen fields. I have bachelor degrees in both Exercise & Sport Science: Fitness, and Spanish, through which I have acquired a vast knowledge of health and fitness. I have also studied abroad in Spain, and lived and worked in Lima, Peru for 6 months upon graduation from college. On first obtaining my degree in South Africa, I taught there as a Fourth Grade teacher for three and a half years. My other classroom experience was in 1997-1998 when I taught as a substitute teacher at an elementary school in South Saint Paul. Those two experiences have taught me that the academic subject to which I am most drawn is English. Although most of my teaching experience since then has been in music, I feel that teaching piano is the same thing as tutoring. Because I have had so many different students with different learning styles, I have learned to adjust my teaching methods so kids will find a way to understand it. I enjoy grasping the subjects so well that I can explore new ways of teaching so that anybody and everybody will eventually get it. I've learned that it takes a lot of patience to make sure that everybody is grasping it, and that sometimes you just have to keep trying, even if you think that there's no hope -- because there is always hope. I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.

I have taught English literature as a substitute in junior and senior high schools, college level German, linguistics, English reading and writing and English as a Second language. I have taught and tutored children and adult learners. My teaching experience has been in Germany, California and Minnesota. I also tutored ACT/SAT in Minnesota.

I find the Socratic method most useful, and with children this translates into making the subject (i.e. German grammar) seem like a puzzle that, with some effort, can be solved.
