Myriad of subjects can be covered

I like to make connections between what is relevant in the world right now to the subject matter.
I have worked with children in one role or another for the past ten years. Last semester I student taught 8th grade American History in Fort Collins and completed my social studies licensure. I then substitute taught a myriad of subjects from English to Math, grades pre-K through 12th grade. Before that I spent four years going through CSU's education department and semesters with students ranging 6th grade to 12th grade.

I love to be hands-on in my tutoring. I feel that problem solving is the key to understanding a topic. If you can work through a question and understand the steps involved, then the knowledge of the subject is definate. I would love to help your child obtain a high degree of success in their studies. A Little Bit About Me...

I bring a lot of energy to the classroom and ensure that I am over-prepared for each lesson. I enjoy involving every student in a classroom setting and encourage an active, open learning environment. I also believe it is a very valuable experience to be able to work with students one-on-one. I like to work with each student to figure out his or her individual learning style and needs. Though it may not be applicable for this position, I try to plan group activities when possible, so that students can learn from one another and help each other work through problems.

A Little Bit About Me...

Helping and watching children learn is inherently rewarding. While skills and content must be mastered, methods can and should be tailored to the individual student. Each child has her/his own style of cognitive processing and problem solving. Attention to the learner's style is critical to the successful acquisition of skills and concepts. I strive to make learning fun. Also, I have been trained in assorted mnemonic (memory) strategies. Most importantly, I believe self esteem is an essential factor in educational growth. While I do not have a bachelor's degree, through my training as a certified veterinary technician and subsequent employment in both clinical and shelter settings, I have gained strong aptitudes for science and writing skills. During my employment, I developed a strong love for any opportunity to teach and share anything and everything I was able.
