A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring more than just about any other activity. I've taught private piano lessons to kids for four years, and having grown up with a lot of homeschooled siblings, I know how to work with children as well as adults, and I love helping people learn. My strongest subject is English. I have a Bachelor's degree in it from the University of Denver, with a 3.9 GPA and distinction in my major. My senior thesis won an award for the best critical thesis submitted in my graduating class, and I've received a B on a paper only once in my college life—all the rest were A's.

To effectively teach any subject I first take the time to clearly organize my thoughts on the subject, decide upon what objectives/information that I would like/need to convey to my students, and then prepare a complete lesson plan including clear goals and a concise agenda for day's topic,which will be shared with the students at the start of the lesson. During the next segment, I present and explain the chosen topic in enough detail to provide a foundation for the class to then be able to engage in a variety of interactive,skill mastery activites, designed to further clarify the subject in as many different ways as are necessary to meet the various learning styles and needs of all the students present.

As a music student at metro, and a jazz/classical pianist with over 15 years of experience, I’ve had a lot of experience teaching students musical technique, especially in terms of modern music/jazz. I’ve been in many different types of bands, ranging from classical quartets to rock bands, and have received several awards, including awards for musicianship at the Greeley jazz festival. I also play the drums and guitar. I’m also double majoring in aviation technology at the Metropolitan state college of Denver.
