I graduated high school with a full International Baccalaureate Program Diploma, and a 4.53 weighted GPA. I then went on to receive a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara University for Computer Engineering, where I took part in the University's Honors Program. There I completed 3 years of study in computer science, classical languages, and Spanish, before deciding to change directions and gain real-world experience. After a brief leave of absence, I entered Licensing Education Courses for the field of Insurance, passed the License Exam, and went to work as the Vice President of Marketing for Financial and Insurance Services, an independent insurance brokerage in Fresno, CA. Feeling the urge to once again to change directions, I am taking took time to pursue my passion for poetry, competing in several contests and publishing an anthology of poetry on Amazon (“Automatic Phantom”). Throughout my academic career, I have done in-class tutoring in exchange for credit. I have also helped my family members, neighbors, and friends to study, complete homework, and even do reports. My range of subjects is very versatile, anything from Oceanography, to Intercultural Communications, to Culinary Arts, and even 3D sculpture and design. Of course outside of these elective type courses, I have a 3.7 GPA in my general education, including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. I attended a charter high school, where we took outside the box classes that met the state regulations. I was taking botany and forensics for science, and African American and Native American history classes. This gave me and opportunity to think outside the box, and become more well rounded. I have been gifted with many brilliant teachers with many different approaches to teaching, and app

In a one-on-one situation, I prefer dialogue. Assuming the student does the assigned work before the session, I find that a informal, relaxed conversation on the subject matter at hand encourages the student to further explore the addressed topic. If I am familiar with the student's extra-curricular interests, I attempt to relate the subject matter to such interests. I find that questioning the student in a conversational manner produces the best results, as opposed to the more stringent (i.e. boring) task of fill-in-the-blank worksheets. For writing assignments, I ask the student to write a paragraph which we then go over line-by-line so the student has immediate feedback on any errors. Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. M

At the University of California-Berkeley, I have pursued my academic interests and personal convictions through a variety of study, work and volunteer experiences. As a student, I have developed strong research, writing and study skills. I have earned two bachelor's degrees in English Literature and Legal Studies and received honor's in Legal Studies after completion of a ninety page research paper. Outside of the classroom, I have had the enjoyable and rewarding experience of mentoring two teen girls for the past two years. In addition, I also work in a law office as a legal and financial assistant, furthering my writing, communication and mathematical skills. I greatly enjoy teaching and feel accomplished helping someone achieve his or her goals. Particularly, I believe that mastering new concepts can be challenging but also a rewarding experience. I feel it is essential to approach te

I have had the experience of teaching students of all ages: kindergarteners, elementary schoolers, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults. I have also taught students whose primary language is not English. Each age group has required a different style of approach, so I cannot comment on my teaching style in full here, but suffice it to say that I cater my teaching style to match the student's age, academic skill, and time. I graduated with an MA in English (TESOL), and a BA in English Composition (writing). I have had a successful career as an English Instructor. My notable areas of expertise include writing (essays, GREs, SATs, TOEFLs, resume writing, etc.), grammar/linguistics, reading skills, oral communication, and vocabulary development. I am proficient in several foreign languages as well: Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, and some Spanish.

I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension. I believe in keeping students engaged at all times, to minimize wasted time. Every child has potential. A teacher just has to know how to reach each child, and that happens when the students builds trust with the teacher. I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. Although I don't enjoy writing, I am very strong in written English and enjoy proofreading papers.

I taught for twenty five years at the middle school level mostly in a self contained sixth grade classroom. In addition to teaching reading, English, math, science, and social studies, I taught electives is video filming and remedial reading. In my experience as a teacher, I discovered that all students can learn if they are properly motivated. I found that I could best motivate a student if I found what they were interested in, and what grade level they were working at. I also worked for five years as a substitute teacher. I believe in individualized teaching. In my sixth grade classroom, I individualized instruction wherever possible. In reading I tested my students and placed them in books at their reading level. I had them write reading summaries and corrected their first drafts. In sixth weeks, I retested and in most instances moved students to a higher level. In my math cla

I have experience working with students of all ages and I thoroughly enjoy the challenge each person brings. I treat each student according to his/her needs and I look for the most effective ways he/she learns. I ask the student questions that lead to his/her discovery of the process, steps and answer to the problem. With this method the student has the satisfaction of resolving the problem, encourages him/her to continue on to more difficult ones, and gives him/her the confidence to do his/her best! As a Summa Cum Laude graduate, I have always valued academics and education. I began to share my drive for excellence through tutoring in high school. I tutored elementary school students in all subjects and college students in Statistics. During college, I tutored in Spanish, as my area of expertise. I have extensive knowledge of the Spanish language and dialects throughout Latin America an

As a college graduate, I was extremely driven to achieve a high level of academic excellence. I earned my bachelors degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Philosophy. These have enabled me to have an understanding of many areas of Language Arts, History, and English. As a Comm Studies major I was held to a high standard of technical writing with essay and would always use credible sources for my research. I love to teach, there is nothing more self rewarding then helping a person who is struggling to achieve something and helping them with their goals. I believe all students can find academic success somewhere if given the correct opportunities and surroundings. I firmly believe that I have been educated by some of the best and these educators have made a world of difference in my life and expectations. I would like to help students in the same way my educators helped me.
