About Me

Experience Summary

Throughout my academic career, I have done in-class tutoring in exchange for credit. I have also helped my family members, neighbors, and friends to study, complete homework, and even do reports. My range of subjects is very versatile, anything from Oceanography, to Intercultural Communications, to Culinary Arts, and even 3D sculpture and design. Of course outside of these elective type courses, I have a 3.7 GPA in my general education, including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. I attended a charter high school, where we took outside the box classes that met the state regulations. I was taking botany and forensics for science, and African American and Native American history classes. This gave me and opportunity to think outside the box, and become more well rounded. I have been gifted with many brilliant teachers with many different approaches to teaching, and apply what I've learned to my tutoring style. My number one goal is to make sure the child (or adult) is comfortable with me, themselves, and the criteria before moving on to the next subject. I really try to make things new and exciting, so you can really understand and apply those subjects to your everyday life. I hope that your find this applicable to what you need, and that we can work together in the near future. :)

Teaching Style

I prefer hands on teaching, but I like to remain flexible to the individuals learning style. Depending on the topics covered, we read, write, and do hands-on activities to keep the brain stimulated. Sometimes if applicable, and with parental consent, we would do art projects and maybe watch an educational film (that the parent has approved of course). For sciences and social studies I really like the idea of field trips, but everything will be permitted by the parental figures first. These field trips usually include going to parks and observing natural habitats, or even visiting the local museums. We can usually negotiate a small group trip which makes the costs slim to none to have these extra curricular activities.

My Hobbies

In my spare time, I usually read, draw/paint, or write. I take my dog out for walks, and go hiking through the forests of South Lake. My housemate and I switch off preparing meals (I love to cook), and collaborate together to create art projects that can bring in a little side cash. Originally we were making jewelry, but we've expanded into macramé, and even making dog beds and harnesses out of recycled materials. So I guess you could say I'm a book worm, that loves to stay active, and expresses ones self through various art projects. When I am back in my hometown of Santa Cruz, I spin Fire with my old friends. Look up fire poi on youtube, it's some cool stuff!

Other Comments

I believe education starts by building a foundation. This foundation is created through trust, openness to new ideas, respect for one another, and finally making something "boring" into something fun and applicable to everyday life! Once you've created this stable foundation, the only way to go is up!
