I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Biolgoy and a minor in Chemistry. While there I spent time tutoring science, mathematics, English and composition to highschool and college level students on an informal basis. I also spent a semester in Australia studying biology in 2001, and two weeks in Florida teaching highschool students Marine Biology in 2003. I think learning should be fun. If a student doesn't enjoy what she is doing, she won't likely attain mastery of the discipline. Moreover, I think students learn best by doing as opposed to being told what to do (i.e. practice as opposed to lecture and explanation). This means that I leave a lot of space for students to try things without fear of making mistakes. Evaluation (especially critical evaluation) is an important element in the later learning process, but initially the priorities should be placed upon fun, experimentation, praise, and lots and lots of practice. As an ivy league graduate, I have attained a top-notch education and had access to the best professors in the world. Through my major I have studied mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus, and Statistics. I have tutored high school students for several years in their homes, mostly for SAT prep and Algebra. My SAT I scores were 710M and 710V. I have worked with students who are very bright, and just wanted to score a little higher on their boards, and students who had trouble passing their courses before they came to me for help.
