I have worked for much of my career as an engineer but have also taught earth science at the high school level for two years in the recent past. It is my belief that most students that seek out the extra help of a tutor have a much greater capacity to learn than they realize. It is upon that belief that all of my tutoring is centered around. My long term goal for most students is to show them how to be self-learners so that at some point they tell me to stop coming because they don't need a tutor anymore. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it!
